COACHING AND CONSULTING RESOURCES – When I’m asked to participate in a job with a geographic information systems component, my client may want me to do all the hands-on cartography and spatial analysis for them. At the other end of the spectrum are clients who ask me to work with them in a coaching capacity. We identify the learning modules they need to do the work themselves, then figure out a strategy for achieving the necessary knowledge transfer. Because we’ve been at this for a while, we have a sense of where the most troublesome knowledge gaps are and when we encounter a technical report or news article with learning value, we try to make sure it doesn’t get away. When we have trouble finding newbie-friendly learning material on a particular topic, we often create something from scratch.
